Suspected arson investigation underway at Dunlop Street business

Barrie Police are looking for a suspect after an arson at a downtown business over night

Detectives with Barrie Police are looking for a suspect linked to an alleged arson attack at a downtown business.

Emergency crews were called to the building on the corner of Dunlop and Mary streets shortly after midnight for reports of a fire.

Officials say the 2 a.m. blaze caused significant damage to the building, including the Shroomyz store located at 66 Dunlop Street West, adjacent to Mary Street.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called to help Barrie Police detectives in the case.

“The cause remains under investigation and will not be confirmed until the fire marshal and police gain lawful entry to carry out the investigation,” said a corporate communications officer with Barrie police.

Police confirmed that there was another incident at the same illegal psilocybin business back in 2023, when officers received a report that a vehicle had driven into the front window of 15 Dunlop Street West.
