S&P/TSX composite down more than 200 points, U.S. stock markets mixed

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 200 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the technology sector, while U.S. stock markets were mixed.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 210.84 points at 34,079.89.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 264.71 points at 49,495.85. The S&P 500 index was up 13.44 points at 7,414.40, while the Nasdaq composite was up 182.53 points at 26,270.73.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.98 cents US compared with 72.94 cents US on Tuesday.

The June crude oil contract was up 63 cents US at US$102.81 per barrel.

The June gold contract was up US$6.50 at US$4,693.20 an ounce.
