Hundreds have already cast their vote to name this giant scrap-metal Albertosaurus before Monday’s deadline. Created by Canadian sculptor Russell Zeid using materials from Alberta and Ontario, it attracts thousands of visitors each year. Everyone is keen for a face-to-face with this dinosaur now, but that would have been dangerous around 70 million years ago when it was roaming Alberta, at about 30 feet long, and weighing three tonnes. Fast forward to 1884, that’s when Joseph Burr Tyrrell discovered the first Albertosaurus sarcophagus fossil along the Red Deer River. Then around the millennium, Calgary’s metal Albertosaurus started its journey at CF Chinook Centre, before being donated to Telus Spark, where it’s been for nearly 10 years. Telus Spark believes the next step in this dinosaur’s evolution is a name. Until Monday, you can flex your naming prowess or use that pet name you never had the chance to. There are several ways to enter the naming contest; in person, through Telus Spark’s social media channels, using the contest QR code, through the Telus Spark website or by using this direct link. If the Spark Dino Naming Council chooses your name, you’ll receive several prizes including TELUS Spark and Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology passes, a $150 Spark Gift Card, a $250 CF SHOP! Card. The dino’s name will be revealed during a celebration on Aug. 26, between 11 and 11:30 a.m. at the TELUS Spark Brainasium Park.
