Cavalry FC were missing their head coach Saturday, but not their fight as they battled the Halifax Wanderers to a 1-1 at ATCO Field. After a scoreless first half, Tobias Warschewski scored on a penalty early in the second half to give Cavalry FC a one-goal lead. The lead held up until the 77th minute, when Isiah Johnston scored to even things at 1-1. Cavalry FC had a pair of opportunities late, but Adam Pearlman could not convert a corner kick from Warschewski. In stoppage time, Jay Herdman converted a setup from Warschewski into a scoring opportunity, but former Cavalry FC goalkeep Marco Carducci was able to chase down the looping header. The draw prevented Cavalry FC from closing the gap on first-place Forge FC, who lead by four points. With head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. in New York to attend the World Cup final, Cavalry assistant Jay Wheeldon took over head coaching duties for the game. Next up for Cavalry FC is a visit to Langley next Friday night, where they’ll take on Vancouver FC.
