Chinook Regional Hospital is getting $320 million for its cardiac catheterization lab and intensive and cardiac care units. Alberta’s government announced the allocation of funds to the Lethbridge health centre Wednesday afternoon. The money is meant to “redevelop the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab and expand the intensive care unit and cardiac care unit.” Chinook’s total bed spaces will rise to 54. The province said design work will begin this month, and construction will begin in October 2027. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2031. Martin Long, the province’s infrastructure minister, said Chinook “plays a vital role in delivering health care across southern Alberta.” “By investing in this facility, we’re helping more Albertans get the services they need, when they need them most,” Long said. Adriana LaGrange, hospital and surgical health services minister, said Albertans “deserve timely access to the care they need, close to home.” Nathan Neudorf, Lethbridge-East MLA, said the increased access “will be life-changing.” And Crystal Elliott, Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation president and CEO, called it the result of a “shared vision.”
