From gravel parking lots to a new outdoor greenspace, the City of Edmonton unveiled its newest downtown park on Friday. According to the city, the Warehouse Park Project is now complete and is ready to welcome Edmontonians to O-day’min Park located between 106 Street and 108 Street to 102 Avenue. • The information you need to know, sent directly to you: Download the CTV News App Mayor Andrew Knack told reporters what the new park brings to Edmonton’s downtown landscape. “It’s a beautiful gathering space, but we also know it’s been a massive draw for economic development,” Knack said on Friday afternoon. “We know there’s going to be thousands of units built around this park because this is the type of space that we need to build a stronger Edmonton.” The 1.81 hectares park measures nearly four-and-a-half NFL football fields and features large open spaces, a green lawn with a hill, an off-leash dog park, a basketball court, an exercise area, a playground and a gathering space with fire pits and public washrooms. According to the news release, one of the community park’s key features is the Northern Lights installation, which creates “a soft glow across the park’s central lawn” with swinging benches which hang off the surrounding light fixtures. Edmonton City Council approved the $48.6-million project to revitalize the downtown core and attract investment on future projects, including the completion of 1,604 apartments that are expected to be built by November 2026. Knack says with more living spaces available, it will naturally create a safer community. “When you have more people walking in parks, walking to the nearby shops, that is what improves safety, because you’ve got more people looking out for one another,” he said. “This park is actually going to be one of the biggest contributing factors to furthering the safety of people who come downtown each and every day.” For more information on O-day’min Park, visit the City of Edmonton’s website.
