The warm spell continues today and Friday. But, there’s another soggy weekend on the way. Edmonton hit a high of 25 C on Wednesday and we’ll get into the mid 20s again this afternoon with partly cloudy skies. Some showers and thunderstorms will develop in the foothills and in northwestern Alberta this afternoon/evening. There’s a slight chance we’ll see a shower or thunderstorm move toward or through the Edmonton region, but I think most of the area will stay dry. Also of note: We’ll continue to see some high 20s/low 30s daytime highs across northern Alberta today. A heat warning is in effect for the High Level and Fort Chipewyan areas. Friday, a trough of low pressure will likely bring some clouds and late-day showers and/or thunderstorms to central and north-central Alberta. That precipitation will start up in the west early in the day and track east towards Edmonton late in the afternoon or evening. Temperatures should climb to the low to mid 20s Friday (depending on how quickly the cloud thickens up). A weather statement has been issued for areas from Edson east to Lloydminster and Ponoka north to Athabasca. With some steady rain on the way for the weekend, more localized flooding is possible in some of that area due to the already saturated ground. Rainfall totals aren’t expected to be as high as last weekend. But, 30-60 mm is anticipated (in general) and some spots could see more. In the Edmonton area, 30-60 mm looks like a decent estimate, with roughly 20-40 mm falling Saturday and about 10-20 mm on Sunday. That should be enough to set the record for most rain in June in Edmonton. The current record is 217 mm in June of 1914. We’re at 203 mm for June 2026 (as of today). LONG RANGE outlook: More wet and unsettled weather next week with a chance of scattered showers Monday, some steadier rain possible (again) Tuesday/early Wednesday.
