A lake just east of Edmonton has been placed under a blue-green algal bloom advisory. Alberta Health Services (AHS) said blue-green algal bloom was found in Half Moon Lake. Residents and visitors are asked to not swim where blooms are visible and to avoid contact with it. People are also asked not to drink or cook with water from the lake, or eat whole fish or fish trimmings. Boiling the water will not remove toxins, AHS added. Pets should also stay away from the water. People who touch the bloom or drink water with bacteria may experience a rash, sore throat, sore red eyes, fever, nausea, diarrhea or swollen lips. Symptoms appear within one to three hours and resolve by two days, AHS said. Exposure can be fatal to pets. The water quality advisory for Zeiner Park Beach on Pigeon Lake has been lifted, AHS also announced.
