The City of Edmonton has activated its extreme weather response to keep vulnerable Edmontonians safe as temperatures are expected to reach 29-30 C for the next few days. During the activation, peace officers will carry water bottles for those in need. City facilities like libraries, pools and recreation centres will be open to anyone needing relief from the heat. Facilities will also have free bottled water and N95 masks. Edmontonians can also find a refreshment at 29 water stations attached to fire hydrants across the city. If you’re concerned about someone outside in the heat, call 211 and press 3 for the 24/7 Crisis Diversion team. If you find someone in serious distress or in a case of emergency, call 911. The activation started Thursday at 9 a.m. and is expected to end this Sunday at the same time. It may be extended if the extreme heat continues.
