With the rainfall warning over parts of Edmonton and the surrounding area, EPCOR says it received more than 600 calls for concerns of pooling and flooding. EPCOR says the stormwater system is under pressure and Edmontonians are asked to reduce their water consumption as more rain is on the way Monday. “What seem like small steps or inconveniences can be the difference in helping neighbours avoid flooding and sewer backups,” EPCOR said in a news release Sunday night. The City of Beaumont and St. Albert is also urging its residents to reduce all non-essential water use as the city faces heavy rainfall from the last 24 hours. Beaumont, and the surrounding Edmonton area, is under a yellow warning from Environment Canada, seeing between 30 to 40 mm of rain. An Alberta Emergency Alert was issued just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday and Leduc County is also under the same warning. A water supply alert was also issued for St. Albert just before 2 p.m. It’s pushed Beaumont’s wastewater system to capacity, causing flooding in some neighourhoods, the city said in a Sunday news release. “With more rain expected through the weekend and Monday, the city is asking people to cut back on their water use to ease pressure on the system,” the city said in the release.
