If you’ve ever had a strong stance for or against infill in Edmonton, the city is asking for your input for any proposed changes to the bylaw. Last year, city council passed several motions asking administration to do an analysis of the current zoning bylaw. Some of the proposed changes include recommending a reduction of dwellings allowed on an interior site in a residential area, options to reduce the height of infills and options to support the maintenance and retention of trees on private properties. Right now, infills in residential areas can be a maximum of three storeys and can have up to eight dwellings. Infill was a hot button topic during the 2025 municipal election in Edmonton, especially after multi-public day hearings in July. One homeowner even purchased the property next door to prevent it from becoming an eight-plex. People can submit their feedback online and will be open until Jan. 29. A verbal summary will be presented to the Urban Planning Committee on Feb. 10.
