Man charged with arson in Chipewyan fire on Tuesday: RCMP

Wood Buffalo RCMP have arrested a 54-year-old man in connection with a grass and residential fire in Chipewyan Prairie First Nation (Janvier) on Tuesday.

RCMP and emergency crews arrived to see a property “fully engulfed in flames” around 4:15 p.m., according to a press release.

Witnesses say they saw a man pouring liquid and lighting the fire. No one was in the home at the time, and there were no injuries reported.

A resident of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation was arrested at the scene and is facing arson charges. He is next due in court in Fort McMurray on May 7.
