Police say a man is in custody after officers responded to a welfare check at an apartment in downtown Edmonton Tuesday night. Officers were called around 11 p.m. to the area of 98 Avenue and 103 Street where it was found that a man had been uttering threats and barricaded himself in his suite. The suite was contained and specialized police resources, including tactical and negotiation teams, were deployed. Neighbouring residents were advised to shelter in place or evacuate as needed out of an abundance of caution, said a statement from Edmonton police. By 9 a.m. Wednesday, one man was taken into custody. No injuries were reported and police continue to investigate.
