People living with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) will now have a place to seek various supports under one roof in Edmonton. The Neuro Wise Edmonton ADHD Centre, located on the west side of the city, has seven specialists, including psychologists and dieticians. It offers assessment therapy, academic support, coaching, social skill groups, parent education and community workshops, all following a “neurodiversity affirming approach.” The idea came from co-founder and CEO of NeuroWise, Yaara Shabtai, after seeing how difficult navigating the health-care system can be for people with ADHD while seeking answers for her child. “We went to see different clinicians. First of all, it was very busy, it was also very fragmented. The clinicians were not talking to each other, and nobody made sure that we have one integrated plan that we can follow,” Shabtai told CTV News Edmonton. The space includes a calm therapy room, a group room and a sensory room. As she became educated about ADHD, she knew it was something she wanted to share. Having multiple services under one roof will make it easier to support a person’s life as ADHD “affects all areas of life,” Shabtai said. Services at the new centre aren’t covered by Alberta Health Services, only by private insurance. The centre officially opens on Saturday. With files from CTV News Edmonton’s Amanda Anderson
