The city has implemented a partial closure at Keillor Point, informally known as the End of the World, because of slope instability. Located at 74 Avenue and Saskatchewan Drive, the spot became a popular trail destination after the closure of Keillor Road in the 1990s. A viewing platform was constructed in 2018. Regular geotechnical inspections and monitoring has confirmed continuing deterioration of slopes due to erosion and localized instability. The city says record rainfall accelerated the deterioration, causing a loss of stability for the support for the viewing platform, which is made from the remnants of a pile wall originally installed to stabilise a portion of Keillor Road. Barricades and signs have been installed at the site to prevent access to the extended portion of the platform and viewing area. The city says regular inspections will continue to assess conditions and public safety risks. Engineers are working to inform long-term options for the viewing area. The main trail and viewpoint remain open for public use. Visitors are asked to respect the signs and barriers in the area and stay on designated paths.
