Sherwood Park’s senior centre now has its answer; Strathcona County council has officially voted in favour of renovating and expanding its current site. The concept design is meant to enhance the facility’s functionality, accessibility and long-term sustainability, according to a news release Tuesday. In 2024, council approved the planning and design of a proposed modernized senior centre at the current site of the Sherwood Park 55+ Club and Log Cabin. The decision came after community feedback. The proposal was awarded a contract earlier this year in January for concept design options. Strathcona County completed a condition assessment, saying the building is suitable for renovation and potential expansion. With the addition of new space and the renovation of the facility’s basement, usable space will expand from 8,220 square feet to 14,940 square feet. Planned improvements include: The estimated construction cost for this option is between $9 and $10 million. This is part of Strathcona County’s 2027-30 Capital Plan.
