On Monday, we introduced our new series, The Crime Tapes, where CTV News Edmonton’s David Ewasuk looks back at the Michael White investigation, featuring our reporting at the time. Part 1 focused on the day his pregnant wife, Liana White, went missing. In the days following Liana White’s disappearance, police launched a search, and so too did her husband, Michael White. And it was his search party of 40 volunteers, not the police, that made a gruesome discovery. His behaviour in front of the camera and the words he chose raised suspicion with investigators, they later said. But it was the evidence they uncovered behind the scenes that played an even larger role in the laying of the murder charge against him. That evidence was revealed at his trial in November 2006, the focus of Part 3 of The Crime Scene Tapes on Wednesday.
