A Fort McMurray man accused of driving 139 km/h on a 60 km/h road is facing charges and a mandatory court appearance. Mounties stopped the 24-year-old driver of a Hyundai Veloster on Thickwood Boulevard at around 1:45 a.m. on April 5. The road was covered in snow and ice, RCMP said on Monday. The man was charged with exceeding the maximum speed limit and careless driving. Driving more than 50 km/h over the speed limit results in a mandatory court appearance. A careless driving ticket is worth $852, police said. He’s scheduled to appear in court on June 26.
