Drivers will get a bit of a break before the start of a planned 10-week road closure near the Region of Waterloo International Airport. Crews will be replacing a culvert on Fountain Street north of the Fountain and Kossuth Road roundabout. While that work is underway, drivers will be detoured around the airport using Kossuth Road, Shantz Station Road and Menno Street. The project is being overseen by the Township of Woolwich. The original plan stated construction would start on or around July 20. However, that work, and the related detours, will now start on July 27. Airport operations The work won’t impact airport operations, but staff encourage anyone who needs to catch a flight to prepare. “The terminal is still open. We’re still operating. The only impact is it’s going to take people a little bit extra time to get to the terminal,” said Tanya Herback, manger of operations at the Region of Waterloo International Airport. “We’re sharing with our tenants, our airline partners and our staff to make sure that they share that message, give themselves extra time, check the route before they leave for the airport because there is going to be a detour,” Herback said.
