April showers might bring May flowers, but the first day of spring is bringing freezing rain and ice to Waterloo region. Environment Canada issued a yellow freezing rain warning for a wide swath of southwestern and south central Ontario Friday morning. The impacted area includes most of Waterloo region and Guelph, stretching from as far west as Kincardine and Saugeen Shores all the way to Markham. Parts of Milton and Oakville are also effected. The organization predicts between two and five millimetres of ice build-up in the area. Meanwhile, a special weather statement is in effect for the Greater Toronto Area, as well as Collingwood and Owen Sound. Environment Canada said the freezing rain is expected to turn to rain as the day goes on and temperatures rise above the freezing mark. The organization is warning travelers to take precautions when out on the roads as the ice build-up can create slippery conditions.
