The City of Kitchener has officially opened the new Williamsburg Community Centre, a multi-use recreation facility in the city’s southwest that replaces the former centre on Fischer-Hallman Road. Located at 200 Rosenberg Way, the 17,000-square-foot building includes gymnasiums, multi-purpose rooms and expanded space for recreation and fitness programming. City officials said the facility is designed to serve residents in the growing Williamsburg and Rosenberg neighbourhoods. The project carries an $8.1-million price tag and was delivered in partnership with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board and the Williamsburg Community Association. The centre includes two gymnasiums and four multi-purpose rooms, with the city planning for more than 150 weekly recreation and fitness programs. It also features accessibility upgrades, including an adult change table, along with public Wi-Fi and computer access. Officials said the technology access is intended to support digital inclusion for residents in the area. The opening ceremony on Saturday included performances by the 530 Havoc Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron marching band, followed by a ribbon-cutting. Attendees also took part in family activities including games, inflatables and entertainment. The Williamsburg centre is one of three new or redeveloped recreation facilities the city said it plans to open this year.
