Work is underway to build a new elementary school in Kitchener as part of a province-wide push to expand classrooms and add child-care capacity. The Ontario government said it is investing $1.6 billion in 79 school construction projects across the province, including new builds, additions and renovations. Locally, $31.3 million has been allocated for Rosenberg II Public Elementary School, which will be located at 365 Rosenberg Way in Kitchener. Once complete, the school is expected to welcome 600 elementary students and include 88 licensed child-care spaces for families within the Waterloo Region District School Board. Officials said the project is part of broader efforts to ensure school capacity keeps pace with population growth in the region. “Southwest Kitchener is growing so rapidly and is such a vibrant community and knowing that within each community, our hope is to always have a school to create that place where community can come and gather,” said Scott Miller, WRDSB chief executive officer. The tentative opening date for the Kitchener school is September 2028.
