Hit-and-run causes power outages in Sportsworld Drive area

The Waterloo Regional Police Service is looking for a driver who hit a hydro wire and caused a power outage in Kitchener.

Police said it happened in the King Street East and Sportsworld Drive area on Thursday.

A hydro pole had to be replaced due to the crash and approximately 1,126 Enova Power customers were left in the dark.

As of 2 p.m., lengthy traffic jams were spotted in both directions along King Street East because traffic lights were out.

Around 3:30 p.m., police announced they were looking for the driver who caused the outage.

No injuries were reported.

Although power was restored to some customers throughout the afternoon, a full restoration was expected by 4:45 p.m.
