Three people are facing a long list of charges following a 2025 shooting at a home in Morriston, Ont., that burned down only a few months later. Ontario Provincial Police said an 18-year-old from Oshawa, 19-year-old from Welland and a 20-year-old from Mississauga have all been charged with attempted murder. It stems from break-in at 35 Whitcombe Way on Nov. 16, 2025. Police were called to the property around 4:40 a.m. for a shooting. One person was taken to a trauma centre with a gunshot wound. A few days later, investigators released images of four people they were looking for and a four-door sedan seen leaving the property. First break-in at the home Ontario Provincial Police said 35 Whitcombe Way was actually broken into twice. The first incident happened in January 2025. Police believed three people were responsible but they only made one arrest. In early 2026, a 24-year-old from Toronto pleaded guilty to breaking and entering, as well as robbery with a firearm. One person who lived in the home at the time of the break-in provided a victim impact statement during sentencing. “The events of that day have had a profound and lasting impact on our family,” the resident wrote. “When our home was invaded, it was not just property that was taken, it was our sense of safety, stability and peace.” The 24-year-old was ultimately sentenced to just under six years behind bars. Fire on Whitcombe Way On March 24, 2026, four months after the second break-in, the house was destroyed in a fire. It was vacant at the time. Firefighters were dispatched to 35 Whitcombe Way around 4:45 a.m. but they couldn’t save any part of the structure. All that remained by 11 a.m. was some of the brickwork, rebar and smoldering rubble. Investigators called the fire suspicious. When CTV News revisited the property on Oct. 2, 2026, only the driveway remained intact. Arrests for attempted murder The first arrest in connection with the shooting was on June 19, 2026. “Investigations like this involve a lot of different variables, a lot of different moving parts,” Const. Matthew Burton told CTV News. “We try to provide this information as soon as we can, but we want to ensure that we respect the court process and the integrity of the investigation.” Ontario Provincial Police said an 18-year-old from Oshawa, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with: The second arrest happened a few days later, on June 24.
