Two Cambridge youths are facing multiple charges after a stolen vehicle investigation that began with a reported theft at a gas station and ended with the arrest of two suspects hours later. Waterloo Regional Police said officers were called to a gas station on Jamieson Parkway at approximately 5:10 a.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of a theft. Investigators allege two individuals wearing black balaclavas attended the business, stole property and fled the area in a black Mercedes. About an hour later, at approximately 6:20 a.m., police received reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Glenview Avenue and McKay Street. Witnesses told police the vehicle was performing donuts in a parking lot and being driven dangerously before leaving the roadway and striking a concrete median in a field. Police said the masked driver and passenger then fled the area on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. Through the investigation, officers determined the Mercedes had been stolen from a residential driveway in the area of Anglerock Drive and Chamberlin Road Drive. At approximately 7:20 a.m., patrol officers from Waterloo Regional Police Service’s South Division located two suspects in the area of Champlain Boulevard and Elgin Street South and took them into custody. As a result of the investigation, a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old, both from Cambridge, have been charged with motor vehicle theft, theft under $5,000, disguise with intent and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The 12-year-old was also charged with failure to comply with a release order, while the 14-year-old faces an additional charge of dangerous operation. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identities of the accused cannot be released.
