Durham police identify constable recruit killed in crash near Ontario Police College

One person has died following a crash involving a transport truck and car on Imperial Road near Aylmer, Ont.

Durham Regional Police Service has identified its constable in training that was killed in a crash near the Ontario Police College in Aylmer on Tuesday.

Tyrone Magbitang, 27, was pronounced deceased at the scene after the passenger vehicle he was driving was involved in a crash with a commercial vehicle.

According to Durham Regional police, Magbitang joined the service as a special constable in May 2023.

“In April of this year, he took the next step toward achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a police officer when he was selected as a police constable recruit,” said the service in a social media post.

“Tyrone was a compassionate, dedicated, and service-driven individual who believed deeply in helping others and making a positive difference in the community.”

Magbitang will be transported today from London to the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto. Loved ones and members of the Durham Regional Police Service will accompany him on the journey.
