The province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is looking into an injury sustained by a person in police custody following an arrest in Grand Bend. The Lambton OPP say they arrested a person following a disturbance at a business on Grand Bend’s Main Street at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 13. Police say the individual was injured during the arrest but was taken to hospital where they were treated and released. A week later, police say they learned the injuries were more serious than first thought and notified the SIU, who took over the investigation on July 8. The SIU investigates injuries to people while in police custody to see if charges or another disciplinary action, is required.
