Man, 64, struck by vehicle while crossing street in Saint-Leonard

A 64-year-old man was seriously injured after being hit by an SUV while crossing the street in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough, police say.

Montreal police received several 911 calls at around 10:30 p.m. on Friday reporting a pedestrian had been struck near the intersection of Jarry Street and Lacordaire Boulevard.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the pedestrian on the ground. He was conscious while being sent to the hospital, according to police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

“Despite his serious injuries, we don’t fear for his life,” Chèvrefils said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old woman, was not injured in the collision and was treated at the scene for nervous shock.

Preliminary information from witnesses reported that the SUV was heading north on Lacordaire before turning and it was at this point that the pedestrian was struck while crossing the intersection.

Police interviewed several witnesses at the scene as they continue their investigation.
