Montreal Victoire keep celebrations going with Carney visit

The Montreal Victoire continued celebrating its Walter Cup victory on Tuesday when it was received in Ottawa by Prime Minister Mark Carney.

When the Victoire defeated the Ottawa Charge in the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) final to claim the Walter Cup, Carney congratulated the Montreal team on an “incredible and historic” season.

On social media, he noted that this was the first time a Canadian team had won the Walter Cup. In the PWHL’s first two seasons, the Minnesota Frost had won the trophy.

This visit to Ottawa marks another significant milestone for the Victoire. Last week, the team was welcomed at Montreal City Hall by Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada to sign the guest book.

Last Saturday, the Victoire celebrated its first-ever championship with its fans as several thousand people lined Sainte-Catherine Street and the Quartier des Spectacles during a parade.
