Quebec fugitive arrested in Alberta after six-year manhunt

After a six-year manhunt, federal offender Stéphane Beaumont has been arrested in Alberta, the Quebec City police service (SPVQ) announced Thursday.

He was initially arrested in 2015 for his involvement in a drug network that distributed “significant quantities of cocaine” in the Quebec City region, according to a report by Noovo Info.

“Having subsequently been granted a relaxation of his detention conditions, he failed to comply with his release conditions and had been on the run since June 2019,” the SPVQ said.

The former fugitive was taken to a provincial prison and is expected to eventually be placed in the custody of Correctional Service Canada.

Beaumont’s arrest follows the combined efforts of the Quebec City police, police teams in Alberta and British Columbia, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and Correctional Service Canada.
