16-year-old homicide victim remembered as caring, funny sister

Angeline Boucher is being remembered as uplifting and funny by her family, who are now mourning her loss while police investigate the teen’s death as a homicide.

“She was loved by so many people,” said her older sister, Satasha Boucher.

Flowers, candles and a place where people can leave messages are set up in memory of the 16-year-old who also went by the name Amber, near the place along Woodview Drive where police found her Wednesday morning.

“She was the most amazing person,” Satasha said as she visited a growing memorial site.

“She would always make jokes when I was upset, and whenever I felt alone, I always had my little sister.”

Satasha, 19, said her sister attended William Roper Hull School.

The Calgary Board of Education shared a letter it passed on to students who had classes with Boucher:

“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the news of the passing of Grade 10 student Angeline Boucher,” the letter said.

CBE let families know they can access services at school or community supports following the student’s death.

“A loss such as this may affect individuals in different ways, and it is important to seek support when needed. Students are encouraged to speak with their family members about their feelings and to lean on trusted supports as they process this loss,” the letter said.

Police found Boucher’s body along Woodview Drive on Wednesday around 5:30 a.m., as they were responding to reports of a stabbing.

Some neighbours heard shouting, and one thought she saw four people around 5 a.m.

An advocate of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls hopes more is done to prevent these types of deaths.

“I want this angel to know they matter. I want the family of this angel to know they matter. But to me, it’s reactionary; we need to have systemic changes. We have decades and decades of advocacy and solutions,” said activist Michelle Robinson.

Police have been interviewing people but have not laid any charges.

“I’m not too sure; I just know it was over something stupid because kids are young and they don’t know what they’re doing, and unfortunately, it took my sister’s life,” said Satasha.

“Always keep people close because you never know when their last breath might be.”
