Cannabis recall in Quebec and Yukon: Elevated arsenic levels prompt another withdrawal of Lunaire products

Quebec producer Great White North Growers Inc. has updated its recall for some Lunaire brand dried cannabis products after tests showed elevated levels of arsenic, a toxic heavy metal.

The recall notice, first posted Jan. 15 on the Health Canada website, was updated on Tuesday to include more products in the company’s line.

They are as follows:

The items were sold through authorized retailers in Quebec with the Société Québécoise du Cannabis (SQDC).

They were also sold in the Yukon.

Harmful to health

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element that can be harmful to human health if ingested at elevated levels.

Prolonged exposure has been linked to an increased risk of cancer and potential damage to the skin, lungs, heart, brain, kidneys and reproductive system, the notice says.

It may also pose risks during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Officials say the recall was triggered after Great White North Growers conducted non-routine additional testing on the lot, which revealed the contamination.

A total of 2,916 units of the recalled products were sold from July 17, 2024, to Jan. 29, 2026, through authorized retailers in Quebec and the Yukon.

In addition, 120 units of the recalled product Lunaire Fleur de Lune dried cannabis (3.5 g; lot 1000765B; packaging date 11 NO 2024) were sold to medical clients through Médicibis.

So far, there have been no reported health complaints or adverse reactions related to the recall.

What consumers should do

Health Canada and the company are urging anyone who purchased the recalled product to stop using it immediately.

Consumers can return unopened products to the retailer where they were purchased or safely dispose of open products out of reach of children and youth.

Customers who experience any health or safety issues connected to this or other cannabis products are encouraged to fill out Health Canada’s Cannabis Reporting Form online.

The recall affects only the specific lots listed.

Other Lunaire cannabis products are not part of the recall.
