Montreal’s river shuttles are back for the summer

Montreal’s river shuttles are back for the summer season.

Starting May 22, residents will be able to hop on board one of six routes serving Montreal and the South Shore cities of Boucherville, Longueuil and Varennes.

The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) describes the ferries as a sustainable alternative to driving and an “essential part of the multimodal public transit system in the Greater Montreal area.”

How much is it?

To ride the shuttle, it’ll cost $6 until June 30 and $7 starting July 1.

Anyone with a weekly, monthly or four-month All Modes A pass, or a monthly All Modes AB, ABC, or ABCD pass can also board the shuttles.

It is free for children under the age of 11, as long as they are accompanied by a person 14 years or older “who is responsible for their supervision.”

“This person must hold a valid and validated ticket and may not accompany more than five children,’ the ARTM notes.

What are the routes?

The six Montreal river shuttle routes are:

Montreal-Mercier (Bellerive Promenade Park Pier) to Boucherville (Yvon-Julien Pier):

• In service from May 22 to Sept. 30, seven days a week.
• Departures every 45 minutes during peak weekday hours and all day on weekends, as well as every 90 minutes during off-peak weekday hours.
• First departure at 6 a.m. on weekdays from Boucherville and at 10:30 a.m. from Boucherville on weekends and holidays.
• This shuttle is free to take as it is a mitigation measure for the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel construction project.

Old Port (Jacques-Cartier Wharf) to Boucherville (Yvon-Julien Wharf):

• In service from May 22 to Sept. 30, seven days a week.
• Departures every 45 minutes during rush hour on weekdays and all day on weekends, as well as every 90 minutes between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays.
• First departure at 6:30 a.m. from Boucherville on weekdays and at 8:45 a.m. from Boucherville on weekends and holidays.

Old Port (Jacques-Cartier Wharf) to Pointe-aux-Trembles (Saint-Jean-Baptiste Wharf) to Varennes (Bellevue Wharf):

• In service from May 22 to Sept. 30, seven days a week.
• Departures every 45 minutes during peak hours on weekdays and all day on weekends, as well as every 45 to 90 minutes between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays.
• First departure at 6 a.m. from Varennes and at 6:25 a.m. from Pointe-aux-Trembles on weekdays, as well as at 9 a.m. from Varennes and at 9:25 a.m. from Pointe-aux-Trembles on weekends and holidays.

Old Port (Quai Jacques-Cartier) to Île Sainte-Hélène (Jean-Drapeau Park Landing) to Longueuil (Marina):

• In service from May 22 to Sept. 7, seven days a week.
• Departures every 60 minutes.
• First departure at 9 a.m. from the Old Port and at 9:30 a.m. from Longueuil.

Express Old Port (Jacques-Cartier Wharf) to Île Sainte-Hélène (Jean-Drapeau Park Landing):

• In service from May 22 to Sept. 7 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
• Departures every 60 minutes, but reduced to 30 minutes for the weekends of May 22 to 24 (Grand Prix) and Aug. 1 to 2 (Osheaga).
• First departure at 10:30 a.m. from the Old Port.
• Special schedules with first departures at 8:15 a.m. on May 22 to 24 (Grand Prix) and at 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 1 to 2 (Osheaga) from the Old Port.

Montréal-Mercier (Bellerive Promenade Park Pier) to Île Charron (North Pier):

• In service from June 20 to Sept. 7 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
• Departures every 60 minutes.
• First departure at 10 a.m. from Bellerive Promenade.
