2 vehicles destroyed after fire in Saint-Leonard

Montreal police's arson squad is investigating after two vehicles were torched in Saint-Leonard.

Two vehicles were heavily damaged after an alleged arson in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough early Friday morning.

Montreal police (SPVM) received a 911 call at 2 a.m. about the incident on D’Antibes Street near De L’Aiglon Street.

“When police arrived, they found two vehicles on fire, a pick-up truck and an SUV,” said Johany Charland, a spokesperson with Montreal police.

Montreal firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames.

“Preventative evacuations were made in the apartments close to the fire for the safety of the residents,” notes Charland, adding that they were able to return home soon after.

Both vehicles are considered a total loss.

The nearby buildings were not affected, according to police, and there were no reported injuries.

“According to initial information, a suspect had set fire to the vehicles using possible incendiary materials before fleeing the scene,” said Charland.

The investigation has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad.
