Montreal beat its daily record high on Monday, with temperatures hitting 35.1 degrees Celsius. The new record is “just squeaking in,” according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Meteorologist Steven Flisfeder. He explains that the previous daily record for Aug. 11 was 35 degrees Celsius in 1944. He adds that Montreal’s heat warning will likely end on Wednesday, but the hot temperatures are expected to continue, with temperatures remaining in the high 20s to low 30s and the humidex values hovering in the high 30s. “It’s just below the criteria for the heat warning to persist,” said Flisfeder. The meteorologist says the city could get some reprieve from the heat on Thursday night, with overnight temperatures closer to 15 degrees Celsius. “[Daytime] temperatures through the rest of the week into Saturday are still expected to be high 20s, low 30s,” he said. “Still a hot week, generally speaking, but with some reprieve Thursday night.” Flisfeder says Montrealers should expect to see above-seasonal temperatures as the fall approaches, potentially all the way until October.
