Ontario Provincial Police charged seven commercial motor vehicle drivers and their carriers during a recent speed enforcement campaign from Oct. 23 to Oct. 26. Officers were watching for speeders on highways 11 and 17, stopping seven drivers who exceeded the posted limit, police said in a news release Wednesday. “Seven CMVs were travelling going between 116 km/h and 122 km/h in zones posted at either 90 km/h or 100 km/h,” police said. Six stops were conducted on Highway 11 in Powassan with a seventh on Highway 17 in Calvin Township. Police said one driver was clocked going 122km/h in Powassan at 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 24. In addition to speeding charges, the drivers were also charged with operating a commercial motor vehicle not equipped with a working speed-limiting system. Carriers were charged with permitting the operation of a commercial motor vehicle not equipped with a working speed-limiting system. The province requires most heavy CMVs to be equipped with a functioning speed limiter set to prevent the vehicle from exceeding 105 km/h.
