Police in Nelson, B.C., are praising a trio of bystanders who jumped into a lake to rescue a woman from a sinking vehicle. Calls about a pickup truck driving over an embankment at the parking lot of the Chahko Mika Mall and into Kootenay Lake came in to 911 at around 1:20 p.m. Saturday, according to the Nelson Police Department. “Three brave citizens immediately jumped into action, entering the water and rescuing the single female occupant from the sinking pickup truck,” the statement from police said. “Crews from Nelson police, Nelson Fire Department and Emergency Health Services attended to find the driver up on dry land, out of danger.” Police say impairment has been ruled out as a factor, and the cause of the incident is under investigation.
