Dozens of charges laid, handgun and small of amount of drugs seized in North Bay

Three men from southern Ontario have been charged with 39 drug and weapons offences in North Bay following an incident that took place in May.

In a news release July 7, police said they responded to a report May 20 that a victim had been “abandoned in the 1700 block of Algonquin Avenue in North Bay.”

Police identified a vehicle and conducted a “high-risk traffic stop on Highway 11 in the Bracebridge area” at around 6:30 p.m. that same day.

Two people were arrested and drugs and a handgun were seized. A third accused was identified and was arrested June 25 in York Region.

The suspects are a 21-year-old man from York Region and two males from Mississauga ages 23 and 25. They have been charged with 39 offences related to weapons possession, drug trafficking and violating probation.

“This investigation demonstrates the teamwork between police services that is necessary to combat this type of crime,” police said in the release.

“Criminals do not operate within jurisdictional borders and law enforcement interagency cooperation, teamwork and communication are of the utmost importance when dealing with this type of multijurisdictional criminal behaviour in order to keep our communities safe, locally, provincially and nationally.”

The three co-accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
