The Timmins Fire Department is on scene at a fire at Triple M. Metal on MacLean Drive, where city officials say onlookers and parked vehicles are obstructing emergency operations. Fire crews had the blaze under control by about 4:15 p.m. on July 15, but the city said the response is being complicated by traffic congestion in the area. Water shuttle blocked “The fire is under control, but trucks need to shuttle water along MacLean Drive from J.V. Bonhomme Boulevard and they can’t do that because you are in the way,” the City of Timmins wrote in a social media post. “Do not drive towards smoke unless you’re part of the crew,” added police. Congestion creates risks Officials said vehicles parked along the shoulder are adding to the congestion – not be confused with the legally required practice of pulling over to allow emergency vehicles to pass. The city warned that the obstruction is affecting emergency response and creating hazards for both responders and the public. “You are impacting emergency response,” the post read. “You are putting businesses and property (and yourself) at risk.” Blunt message from firefighters Firefighters on scene are expressing their frustration directly to motorists who continue to impede the operation. “Firefighters with language that would burn your ears off are driving towards you,” read the city’s post, advising the crew is going to tell you to “move.” The city also offered a final note of caution to residents, saying “stay safe” to conclude the post.
