North Bay OPP and MNR conduct joint snow machine enforcement patrols

OPP and MNR officers stopped 468 snowmobiles this weekend in the North Bay region, issuing 67 tickets or warnings.

The North Bay Ontario Provincial Police and conservation officers from the Ministry of Natural Resources conducted a snowmobile enforcement initiative in the North Bay region from March 13-15.

“Throughout the three-day operation, officers patrolled multiple lakes and ice-access points, engaging with operators, conducting safety checks, and promoting responsible MSV use,” the OPP said in a news release Monday.

“Patrol areas included Lake Nipissing, Callander Bay, Manitou Islands, Goose Island, Trout Lake, Turtle Lake, Lake Nosbonsing and shoreline regions surrounding North Bay.”

Police made 468 contacts that resulted in 67 provincial offence notices and warnings.

Charges covered offences under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act, Off-Road Vehicles Act, Liquor Licence and Control Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and Ontario Fisheries Act.

“One roadside alcohol screening test resulted in a seven‑day licence suspension,” police said.

“Officers also completed approximately 275 km of (snow machine) patrols, reinforcing visibility and public safety across local lakes and trails.”

As spring approaches, police remind snowmobile and ice users that ice conditions can change rapidly.

Warmer weather, fluctuating temperatures and increased water flow can make previously safe routes unpredictable.
