North Bay police have charged two people with $142,000 in fraud related to Ontario Disability Support Program payments. Two years ago, the ODSP began an investigation into payments made to two people between Jan. 1, 2019, and Aug. 31, 2024, the North Bay Police Service said in a news release Thursday. “It is alleged that both accused knowingly failed to disclose information to ODSP regarding their marital status, income, cohabitation and assets,” police said. “Following the ODSP investigation, the matter was referred to (police), which subsequently opened a criminal fraud investigation.” “Allegations involving the misuse of public funds are very serious,” said Insp. Scott McFarlane. As a result of the investigation, both accused were charged with fraud over $5,000 and arrested on Sept. 22 without incident. “The names of the accused are not being released due to privacy considerations,” said police. They are scheduled to appear in court at a future date.
