Police in Sault Ste. Marie have charged a 19-year-old woman with calling the police number dozens of times in a short period of time for no reason. The teen was charged July 6 with harassing communications. “Between approximately 6:40 p.m. and 9 p.m., the accused called the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service non-emergency phone line more than 60 times with no legitimate reason,” police said in a July 7 news release. “The accused is also on conditions to not call police unless there is an emergency. Officers were dispatched to the accused’s residence. The accused was arrested.” In addition to harassing communications, charges include failing to comply with an undertaking and failing to comply with a release order. She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
