The Ministry of Natural Resources is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying those responsible for removing a gill net that had been set in Goulais Bay on Lake Superior as part of a lake sturgeon research project. The net was removed by unknown individual(s) between 11:51 a.m. on Canada Day and 8:30 a.m. on July 2. Net was clearly marked The research net had been set east of the Goulais River mouth, off South Channel beach, when it was taken. “The net was clearly marked with large yellow floats labelled ‘Department of Fisheries and Oceans Scientific Equipment’,” the ministry said in a news release. Investigation ongoing “The ministry takes this situation very seriously,” the conservation officers said. The MNR is now seeking information from the public about the incident.
