Maison McCulloch Hospice and Pure Country 91.7 are joining forces for the seventh annual Care-A-Thon, a six-hour fundraising broadcast scheduled for July 16. The event will run from 6 a.m. to noon on the Sudbury radio station, with Pure Country morning hosts Josh & Coop alongside the hospice’s executive director, Julie Aubé. The hospice provides end-of-life care at no charge to patients and their families. “Sadly, we know we can’t cure everyone, but we can care for everyone – and that’s what our hospice offers to our community at no charge,” the radio station wrote on its event page. More than 2,500 people have spent their final days at the facility. “They didn’t go there to die but rather to live those days on their own terms with respect, dignity and love,” said Pure Country. Fundraising goal set at $100K Last year the Care-A-Thon crossed the $1 million threshold in the event’s six-year history – meaning over the six years it has raised more than a million dollars for the facility and the care it provides the community. “Last year was our million-dollar year,” said Bryan ‘Coop’ Cooper of Pure Country 91.7 in an email to CTV News. This year, organizers said they are aiming to build on that success. “We are looking to ride that momentum, with a goal of at least $100,000 again this year,” Cooper said. The broadcast will feature testimonials from community members answering the question ‘Why do you care about our Hospice?’ RBC Dominion Securities and RBC Private Banking are proud sponsors of the event.
