The Anishinabek Police Service charged a 36-year-old Garden River man Oct. 31 with impaired driving after he failed a roadside screening test. Just after 2 a.m., an officer was patrolling Highway 17B in Garden River First Nation when a vehicle pulled a sudden U-turn and continued westbound on Trunk Road in Sault Ste. Marie, police said in a news release Tuesday. “The officer then made a U-turn and observed the vehicle not maintaining its lane and swerving.” After speaking with the driver, the officer suspected the man was intoxicated and he failed a roadside screening test. Breath samples registered at the Sault Ste. Marie detachment were more than twice the legal limit, police said. The man’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He’s scheduled to be in court on Dec.14.
