Weekend Soo plane crash From CTV Northern Ontario: Two men from Sault Ste. Marie killed in plane crash on Saturday.

We have an update on that weekend plane crash in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan that claimed the lives of two men from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The pilot, 67-year-old Gilbert Belair, and his passenger, 76-year-old john Paul Finck, were killed when their Raven-model aircraft went down Saturday morning near Sanderson Airfield.

Investigators with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board say the plane was built by one of the pilots who died in the crash, a man who had experience flying it.

Mike Folkerts is a U.S. National Transportation Safety Board investigator.

"What the witnesses saw was that he took off, got to about treetop level, at about a 1000 feet down the runway and made a sharp right turn. As that sharp right turn occurred, then there was a pitch up of the aircraft, nose high. After that, there was a pitch down, nose low, until ground impact." said Folkerts.

Investigators say both Belair and Finck died on impact.

They believe it will take a year to complete their examination into the cause of the crash.
