Ottawa dries out after 39 mm of rain on Thursday

Sunshine and warm temperatures are in the forecast this weekend for Ottawa, as the capital dries out from another heavy rainfall.

Environment Canada says 39.2 mm of rain was recorded at the Ottawa Airport on Thursday as a series of storms moved through the area on the opening night of Ottawa Bluesfest. The record for greatest rainfall for Ottawa on July 9 is 61 mm, set in 1952.

Ottawa received 118 mm of rain on Canada Day.

The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud today with a 40 per cent chance of afternoon shower. Environment Canada says there is a risk of a thunderstorm. High 27 C with the humidex making it feel like 32.

It will be partly cloudy tonight with a 40 per cent chance of evening showers. Low 16 C.

Sunshine is expected on Saturday. High 27 C.

The sunny conditions will continue on Sunday. High 29 C.

The outlook for Monday calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers. High 20 C.

Tuesday will see a mix of sun and cloud. High 32 C.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 27 C and a low of 16 C.
