Ottawa firefighters douse backyard blaze in Greenboro area

A backyard fire in the Greenboro area spread to neighbouring fences and trees but was quickly brought under control Sunday evening.

The fire broke out in a shed on Fireside Crescent at around 8:35 p.m.

Ottawa Fire Services public information officer Nick DeFazio told CTV News Ottawa that several people called 9-1-1 to report flames and smoke.

The fire was under control by 8:40 p.m.

DeFazio said radiant heat from the fire broke two windows of the nearby home, and some trees, fences, and patio furniture in the backyard were damaged by the flames.

No one was reported hurt.

The cause of the fire is unknown. DeFazio said a fire investigator was not dispatched to the scene.
