Quebec provincial police say a pedestrian has died following a collision on Highway 50 in Gatineau overnight. The incident happened just after midnight Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of the highway near boulevard de la Vérendrye. According to the Sûreté du Québec, the pedestrian was on the highway and was struck by a vehicle. The individual, who has yet to be identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the reason the pedestrian was on the highway remains under investigation. According to police, the driver of one of the vehicles involved reportedly did not remain at the scene, and an investigation is underway to determine that person’s involvement. “Police would particularly like to speak with two witnesses to this morning’s collision,” said Sgt. Marc Tessier, in an email to CTV News Ottawa, translated from French. “One vehicle was reportedly able to avoid the pedestrian, while the other vehicle struck them. The two vehicles came to a stop, and the two drivers reportedly interacted briefly before leaving the scene.” The Gatineau Police Service will be assisting the Sûreté du Québec in the investigation, Tessier said.
