A long-awaited pathway behind Parliament Hill officially reopened on Tuesday, according to the National Capital Commission. The scenic pathway along the Ottawa River had been closed since June 2022 to conduct major rehabilitation and renewal work of the area. “We’ve been working with federal partners to stabilize the escarpment behind the Supreme Court of Canada and remove the tunnel section of the pathway,” the NCC said in a social media post. “The work helps us protect public safety and strengthen climate resilience.” The path connects walkers and bikers along the shoreline to the newly opened East Warf, allowing swimmers to take a dip in the river under Major’s Hill Park for the first time this summer. The path then snakes behind Parliament Hill, the Supreme Court of Canada to the Portage Bridge, connecting to more than 200 kilometres of pathways across Ottawa-Gatineau, Gatineau Park and the Greenbelt.
